How to Run a Shisha Charcoal Field Trial in a Hookah Lounge
Run identified candidate and reference samples across comparable shifts or stations. Keep fuel mass, staff actions, service duration and costs in one trial record.

Shisha charcoal lounge field trial
A fair comparison needs a plan and a session-level record.
Keep candidate identity, setup, staff actions and service demand visible. A result only helps procurement when you can explain which conditions produced it.

This worksheet is a proposed procurement method. Set criteria and recording intervals for your operation before the trial.
01 · Trial plan
Define the decision and the comparison before the first shift.
A shisha charcoal lounge field trial tests identified candidates in a real operating setup while keeping changes visible. Start with one procurement question: whether a candidate meets the lounge’s agreed service requirements compared with its identified current reference.
Write the candidate and reference IDs, participating outlets or stations, comparable shifts, staff allocation, planned repeats, evaluation window and acceptance criteria. Choose the scope in advance; there is no universal number of sessions or pass limit in this guide.
Use the operator’s approved procedures and applicable local requirements. This procurement protocol does not provide indoor-air, fire-code, health or tobacco-use advice.
02 · Sample custody
Keep the candidate identity and received condition traceable.
Assign each supplier sample, grade, batch or lot and pack a record ID. Reconcile labels with the agreed sample specification, then inspect pack condition, pieces and fines before selecting trial portions. Unknown batch information stays unknown.
Record nominal and measured dimensions, piece count and unlit starting mass for every trial. Define whether comparison uses equal fuel mass or each candidate’s intended operating configuration; report actual count and mass in either case.
Document storage location, opening date and known exposure. Keep retained identified material when the agreed quantity permits. Do not silently remove broken pieces and present selected intact cubes as the entire arrival result.
03 · Comparable shifts
Separate the charcoal change from station and staff differences.
Pair candidate and reference trials in comparable service windows. Record workload, station, operator, equipment, bowl and foil/HMD configuration, preparation method and readiness criterion. Keep other controllable settings consistent within each comparison.
Where practical, alternate which candidate is tested first or vary candidate assignment across comparable stations in a planned sequence. This can reduce systematic order or station bias; it does not erase differences in demand or operator behavior.
If each product requires a different intended setup, treat the result as a comparison of complete operating configurations. Do not label it a fuel-only experiment. For multiple staff, give each a written recording method and document deviations.
04 · Timed session log
Record service duration together with interventions and replacements.
Record preparation start, ready, transfer, service start and the agreed useful endpoint. Separate active labor from elapsed waiting time. State whether session duration runs from service start to the useful endpoint or another defined boundary.
At agreed observation intervals, log heat behavior and staff or customer feedback. If using an instrument, identify the measurement method and conditions. Record cube rotation, repositioning, ash handling and every replacement with time, reason, count and mass.
An operational session endpoint can depend on service demand. Mark demand-ended sessions separately from fuel-ended trials; do not compare them as if they measured the same usable-heat duration.
05 · Condition and feedback
Record events without jumping to a cause.
Keep ash-handling workload, breakage and fines in the trial record. Define whether a damage result is based on count or mass and distinguish receipt, opening, transfer and later handling stages. Visible residue is not laboratory ash percentage.
Log odor, smoke or other observations by time, stage, observer and conditions. These descriptive records do not establish air-quality, safety or health conclusions. Link feedback to the trial without collecting unnecessary personal details.
When a complaint occurs, retain sample identity, setup, storage and intervention records. Separate observations from hypotheses about charcoal, operator technique or equipment. Mixed findings need review, not an automatic supplier verdict.
06 · Session economics
Use the same cost boundaries for both candidates.
For each candidate, total the initial and replacement fuel issued plus allocated handling losses under one declared rule. Multiply kilograms by delivered cost per kilogram. Divide by the defined count of evaluated sessions, disclosing partial sessions and any exclusions.
Track active staff minutes separately. If calculating broader operating cost, multiply those minutes by the relevant labor rate and add separately allocated preparation energy or consumables. Avoid counting the same wasted fuel twice.
Compare useful service duration, intervention frequency, fuel use and costs together. A lower kilogram price or a longer duration alone cannot explain the lounge’s operating result. Keep buyer assumptions separate from measured inputs.
07 · Trial review
Preserve variation and approve only what the evidence supports.
Review individual trial results before summarizing. Report the planned scope, completed valid trials, deviations, exclusions and reasons. Show variation between operators, stations and shifts instead of only the most favorable session.
If a candidate consistently differs from the reference under comparable conditions, the evidence supports that tested application. If outcomes depend on staff or setup changes, isolate those factors with a further planned comparison before attributing the difference to the fuel.
Record approve, conditional approval, repeat or reject against the pre-agreed criteria. Identify grade, dimensions, setup, pack requirements, sample IDs and unresolved issues. A limited lounge trial does not approve every future batch or commercial shipment package.
Field-trial questions
How many sessions are required?
There is no universal count here. Plan repeats that cover the relevant shifts, staff and setups, then disclose the actual scope and its limits.
Should both samples use the same number of cubes?
Piece count alone can hide differences in piece mass. Declare the comparison basis and record actual count and starting mass.
What if the operator changes the setup?
Log the change and review the result as a different configuration. A further controlled comparison may be needed for a fuel-specific conclusion.
Should an interrupted session be discarded?
Retain the record, state why it was interrupted and apply the exclusion rule agreed for the trial. Do not exclude sessions just because they look unfavorable.
