How to Calculate Landed Cost per Sellable Kilogram of Shisha Charcoal
Add the costs that belong to the same delivered scope, count each charge once and divide by kilograms you can actually sell. Keep current quotations, tax placeholders and loss assumptions visible in the calculation.

01 · Define the destination and cost boundary
Compare the same delivered scope in one currency.
Shisha charcoal landed cost per kg becomes more useful when the denominator is the quantity you can actually sell in the intended channel. Start by defining the product, approved pack, shipment quantity, destination and the point where the cost model stops, such as received and handled into a specified warehouse.
Keep a conventional delivered-cost subtotal and any additional management-planning costs visibly separate. Finance, storage assumptions and abnormal damage may need different accounting treatment. This worksheet is a procurement comparison model, not a prescribed inventory valuation or tax calculation.
Choose a reporting currency and record the conversion source, date and basis for each foreign-currency line. Label the calculation estimated until the underlying invoices, actual quantities and relevant decisions are reconciled. Do not compare a port-only estimate with a warehouse-received estimate as if they cover the same scope.
02 · Product, packaging and origin costs
Assign each cost once to its supported scope.
Begin with the current accepted product quotation, its unit, quantity, pack revision and complete delivery reference. Record whether packaging, printing, origin handling, inspection or documents are included. Add only the portions outside the quoted scope.
ICC guidance describes the allocation of defined costs, obligations and risk through the selected Incoterms rule. Record the rule, named port/place/point and version, then reconcile the actual quotation inclusions. An Incoterm alone does not set the product price, payment terms or every contract condition.
Identify separate inner/outer packaging, artwork or setup charges where applicable, inspection and laboratory costs, required documents and origin handling. Distinguish one-off costs from recurring shipment costs, and explain any allocation of a setup cost across units or future orders.
For mixed SKUs, allocate shared costs on a documented basis appropriate to the charge, such as actual service usage, weight or occupied volume. Do not hide a heavily packaged SKU’s effect behind an unexplained shipment average.
03 · Freight, destination and duty or tax placeholders
Obtain current route-specific amounts and assessment bases.
Add freight, insurance, relevant surcharges and separately charged origin or destination services using current dated offers. Record route, service scope, validity and exclusions. Check whether an invoice or package already contains a charge before adding it again.
Include applicable broker, port or terminal charges, release-related services, inland delivery and warehouse receiving or handling through the defined boundary. Show potential delay or additional-service costs as identified scenarios until their amount and applicability are confirmed.
Keep duty and tax fields pending until the appointed broker and relevant destination sources confirm classification, origin, assessment basis, rates and applicable conditions. Do not calculate all charges as one percentage of the supplier price or assume an exemption applies.
ITA’s export guidance describes landed cost as including product, freight, insurance, tariffs/taxes and other fees, while emphasizing estimates and current confirmation. Its U.S. export examples are not a tariff schedule for Indonesian charcoal. Have the finance or tax reviewer distinguish recoverable taxes and cash outlays from costs in the chosen model.

04 · Finance, damage and warehouse assumptions
Keep cost additions separate from lost kilograms.
For a broader procurement view, show payment and banking charges, currency-conversion costs and financing assumptions separately. Identify the amount, period, source and allocation basis. Do not bury a finance estimate in freight or present it as a confirmed supplier charge.
Damage affects the calculation in two different ways: excluded product reduces sellable kilograms, while inspection, approved repacking, handling or disposal may add costs. Do not add the purchase value of the same lost goods a second time if it is already included in the shipment cost numerator.
Keep expected insurance proceeds, supplier credits and salvage recoveries separate from confirmed costs. A claim or request is not a received recovery. Show any accepted adjustment transparently with its status and calculation version rather than assuming full compensation.
Allocate warehouse handling to the defined scope and retain any later storage or distribution costs as separately labelled extensions. Ask the responsible finance reviewer to confirm accounting treatment and keep the commercial comparison internally consistent.
05 · Sellable kilograms and loss assumptions
Use a mutually exclusive quantity reconciliation.
Use net product kilograms, excluding packaging, as the starting quantity basis. For a pre-order scenario, distinguish planned shipment quantity from expected received quantity and assign each loss assumption to a defined stage. After arrival, reconcile against actual received and released quantities.
From the starting quantity, identify shortages, rejected or unusable product, non-sale samples and other quantities outside the model’s sellable scope without counting the same goods twice. Record whether on-hold goods are excluded provisionally or remain unresolved; do not quietly treat them as released.
Breakage is not automatically a total loss. Assess what remains acceptable for the intended pack, channel and agreed criteria, with technical disposition where needed. Avoid adding both a measured excluded mass and an overlapping generic breakage percentage.
Build realistic assumptions from identified receiving records, packaging trials or another explained evidence base. If data is missing, show a range labelled as an assumption and assign an owner to improve it. No standard loss rate or supplier-wide damage promise is supplied here.
06 · Calculate, compare and update
Divide the defined cost by the sellable quantity on the same basis.
Planning cost per sellable kg = total included cost in the reporting currency ÷ sellable net product kilograms. Both numerator and denominator must cover the same shipment, SKU allocation and boundary. If sellable quantity is zero, the ratio is undefined; if it is unresolved, the result remains a scenario rather than a final cost.
Keep the gross shipment-cost-per-net-kg comparison alongside the sellable-kg result so the effect of excluded quantities is visible. For the same included cost, a smaller sellable denominator increases cost per sellable kilogram. This relationship is arithmetic, not a forecast of actual loss.
Compare a supported base case with separately labelled adverse cases for uncertain freight, exchange, delay, handling or sellable quantity. Change assumptions transparently and avoid applying the same exchange movement twice. A more complete model does not guarantee a margin or a selling price.
Update estimates with actual invoices, confirmed adjustments and receiving decisions. Retain source dates, quote revisions, allocation rules and reviewer approval so the next order is compared with evidence rather than an old headline price.

Landed-cost questions
Should I divide by shipped or sellable kilograms?
For this model, use the sellable net quantity on a defined basis. Keep a separate shipped-net-kg ratio for comparison and reconcile exclusions without overlap.
Should packaging and freight always be added separately?
Only add the portion not already included in the accepted quotation or another cost line. Confirm inclusions against the complete delivery scope.
Can pending duties, taxes or a possible claim be treated as zero?
No. Keep unresolved inputs and potential recoveries visible with their status. Obtain the actual destination and finance review.
Does this worksheet give a standard loss rate or selling margin?
No. Use evidence-based assumptions and current order-specific inputs. The resulting ratio is a planning measure, not a profit guarantee.
