How to Compare BBQ Charcoal Quotations Apples to Apples

Rebuild every quotation on the same product, pack, quantity and delivery scope before comparing the price. Keep unknown costs and quality assumptions visible instead of treating them as included.

Compare BBQ charcoal quotations

The price is useful only after the scope matches.

Importers comparing a wholesale charcoal quote from several suppliers or countries can receive numbers that refer to different products and delivery arrangements. One offer may include printed cartons and inspection while another leaves them open. A price ranking made before reconciling those differences can be misleading.

The lowest FOB price is not automatically the lowest total cost. Start with a common buying brief, request the missing details and compare a defined delivery endpoint. Keep quality evidence and commercial conditions alongside the numbers.

This guide publishes no current supplier prices or promised savings. Unimax confirms its product, packing and commercial proposal for the actual inquiry.

Charcoal price comparison

Nine fields to normalize before ranking offers.

Use one column per supplier in your comparison worksheet
FieldCommon comparison basisMismatch to resolve
Grade and raw materialDescribe the actual product and formulation category, not just a grade name.Different descriptions remain separate options until reconciled.
Dimensions and tolerancesUse matching geometry, units, measurement points and agreed limits.A different size may change pack and use assumptions.
Specification and evidenceMatch properties, limits, test methods, reporting basis and report scope.A result with another method or sample is not direct equivalence.
Pack and net weightDefine inner pack, carton, units per carton, net product mass and printing.Gross shipment mass is not net charcoal mass.
Quantity and loadingState net quantity, SKU mix, carton dimensions and reviewed loading plan.A container label alone does not establish supplied quantity.
Trade term and locationRecord the proposed rule, named location, edition and delivery scope.Different cost and responsibility scopes need reconciliation.
Documents and inspectionList exact requirements, issuer or reviewer, stage and included cost.Confirm availability; do not treat missing information as included.
Validity, schedule and paymentRecord currency, price unit, expiry, timing assumptions and payment milestones. An expired or conditional offer needs reconfirmation.
Inclusions and exclusionsItemize product, packing, services and charges; mark open items. An unknown charge is not a zero-cost charge.

Grade, material and dimensions

A matching grade name does not establish equivalence.

Describe the raw-material category, product format and dimensions you intend to buy. Unimax currently focuses its BBQ range on hexagonal coconut charcoal briquettes. Keep alternative formats or material categories separately labelled when requesting options.

Match the required properties, limits, tolerances and reporting basis. Two offers called “premium” may refer to different requirements. Use the specification-sheet guide and ask how the evidence relates to the offered product.

Compare numerical test results only after checking the method, sample identity and conditions. Do not translate a report into a guarantee beyond its stated scope.

Pack, net weight and load quantity

Compare the charcoal quantity you will actually receive.

Record net charcoal mass per retail pack, units per carton, inner protection, carton structure and printing. Distinguish net product weight from the weight of packaging, pallets or the complete shipment.

Confirm the proposed net order quantity and reviewed loading assumptions. Carton dimensions, packing format and SKU mix should match the offer. Do not compare two container totals as though they necessarily contain the same mass or sale units.

For own-brand products, identify artwork, printing and setup scope. An offer for generic packing is a different option until the private-label requirements are priced and confirmed.

Incoterm, port and delivery endpoint

Match the named scope before comparing totals.

Record the proposed Incoterms® rule, named location, edition and delivery endpoint for each offer. Ask the supplier and logistics parties to explain which costs and services are covered and which you still need to arrange.

ICC describes the rules as clarifying delivery tasks, costs and risks. Use its official guidance and the relevant transaction advisers to review the arrangement. An abbreviation alone is not a complete cost comparison.

Use the price-request scope guide and official reference below to prepare the questions. Do not infer the right trade term for every shipment from this checklist.

Documents, inspection and exclusions

Make missing scope visible.

List the required shipment records, product evidence, issuing requirements and review timing. Confirm whether the proposed supplier can provide them for the actual product and destination and whether their cost is included.

Define inspection stage, scope, acceptance criteria, reviewer and cost allocation. A generic statement that quality is checked does not describe the inspection you requested.

Ask for explicit inclusions and exclusions. Keep unresolved freight, handling, insurance, destination services and other relevant charges marked as open until reviewed. A blank field does not mean the service is free or included.

Validity, payment and schedule

Commercial conditions belong in the comparison.

Record the quotation date, validity, currency and price unit. If converting currencies for an internal comparison, use a stated rate and date, preserve the original currency amounts and mark the conversion as an assumption.

Compare proposed payment milestones and the evidence or release conditions attached to each. Keep these conditions explicit rather than hiding them in a price ranking. Confirm the final terms with the relevant parties before committing.

Separate requested dates from supplier-confirmed milestones. Use the production lead-time guide to review approval, packaging and shipment dependencies. Reconfirm an offer when scope or timing changes.

BBQ briquette sourcing cost

Calculate a common landed-cost scope.

Choose one endpoint, such as your receiving warehouse, and list the cost items needed to reach it. Start from each quotation and add only the costs not already included. Use the landed-cost checklist to keep the scope consistent.

Keep confirmed amounts, estimates and unknowns separate. Document the quantity unit and avoid counting the same transport or service charge twice. If important items remain open, show a provisional comparison rather than a definitive winner.

Costs and applicable destination treatment need order-specific review. A product unit price alone cannot establish the complete delivered cost.

Sellable yield

Compare the usable quantity as well as the invoiced quantity.

Define what can be sold or used in your actual channel: intact retail packs, accepted briquettes or another agreed unit. Document the acceptance definition. Do not assume all fines or broken pieces are unusable for every application.

Cost per sellable unit equals the total cost for the chosen scope divided by the accepted sellable quantity in that same scope. If yield is estimated, label it as a scenario; if measured, identify the lot, receipt condition and method.

For illustration only, an assumed 1,000 kg received with an assumed 950 kg accepted gives a 95% sellable yield. The denominator is 950 kg, not 1,000 kg. These are fictional assumptions, not Unimax results or a forecast of shipment damage.

Use observed evidence rather than a convenient yield percentage to justify a supplier ranking. Keep any claim, recovery or rework assumption separate until confirmed.

Comparable quotation workflow

Rebuild every quote on the same scope.

Save the original offers and dated revisions. Record which assumptions were confirmed by each party.

  1. 01

    Issue one buying brief

Send every supplier the same product, pack, quantity, destination and evidence requirements.

  2. 02

    Record each offer unchanged

Keep the quotation reference, date and version alongside its original assumptions.

  3. 03

    Flag mismatches and gaps

Mark differences as confirmed, estimated or unresolved; request a scoped revision.

  4. 04

    Rebuild the cost comparison

Use one currency, quantity basis and delivery endpoint. Add only costs not already included.

  5. 05

    Check the sellable quantity

Define usable or sellable yield for your application and separate measured results from assumptions.

  6. 06

    Review evidence and terms

Use the supplier scorecard, then confirm validity, inspection, payment and schedule before deciding.

Use the supplier comparison scorecard to review evidence and capability alongside the commercial offer.

Quotation comparison questions

Is the lowest FOB offer necessarily the best value?

No. Reconcile the product, packing, quantity, total cost scope, sellable yield evidence and commercial conditions first.

Can I compare different grade names?

Compare the underlying specification, method and evidence. Names alone do not establish matching products.

What should I do with an unknown charge?

Mark it unresolved and request confirmation or a clearly labelled estimate. Do not enter zero as though it were included.

Can I use the supplier’s claimed yield?

Record its basis and scope. Keep an unverified claim separate from observed receipt and evaluation results.
