How to Read a Shisha Charcoal Specification Sheet

Read every value together with its units, test method, reporting basis and acceptance rule. Then check whether the document describes a target product or a result for an identified sample.

Shisha charcoal specification sheet

A value needs context before it becomes a buying criterion.

Procurement teams need to know what is offered, how it will be checked, and which evidence supports the decision. Read the sheet as a set of defined requirements and records rather than a ranking of impressive numbers.

Use it alongside sample evaluation, the cube dimensions guide, and the laboratory-report evidence guide.

Specification review checklist

Record the answer and the evidence gap.

01 · Document identity

Start with the product and the responsible party.

A shisha charcoal specification sheet should identify the offered product, grade, format, document version, issue date, and issuing party. Check that the grade and pack match the quotation you are reviewing. A supplier may offer several products, and a convincing sheet for one grade does not describe every product sold under the same brand.

Ask whether the document is a target specification, a typical-property summary, or a report of measured results. Those roles are different. A target states the requirement or intended offer; a measured report describes the identified material and tests in that record. A product brochure is not automatically a lot-release document.

Record who can clarify the technical fields and who approves the order specification. Connect the accepted version to the sample reference and purchase record. Keep replaced versions separate so the team cannot accidentally order against an old sheet while inspecting against a newer one.

02 · Limits and tolerances

Read the acceptance language before the number.

Check whether a value is a maximum, minimum, range, nominal target, or typical result. A typical figure does not by itself define a guaranteed acceptance limit. If the sheet contains a bare number, request written clarification before using it to judge a delivery.

For dimensions, record length, width, and height, the units, permitted variation, measurement method, and sampling rule. Agree whether the requirement applies to individual inspected pieces or another defined acceptance rule. An average dimension can hide pieces outside the intended range.

Use the cube-size guide to check physical format and pack fit. For any percentage claim, clarify the counted population, definition of conformity, and test conditions. Terms such as crack-free rate need a denominator and a procedure before they become a usable inspection criterion.

03 · Moisture and ash

Compare method and reporting basis as well as values.

For moisture and ash, request the method identifier and revision, units, reporting basis, and identity of the tested sample. Clarify whether a moisture entry refers to the received material or a prepared analysis sample. Do not assume two values are directly comparable because both use a percent sign.

Confirm what labels such as as-received or dry basis mean in the laboratory report and whether any conversion was performed. Keep the original results and conversion information. Ask the laboratory to reconcile different bases before procurement ranks suppliers or judges conformity.

Ash color and an ash-content figure answer different questions. A photograph of pale residue cannot replace the stated analytical method. Also distinguish a specification limit from the actual result: a quoted maximum needs the agreed evidence and release rule if it is to control the order.

04 · Fixed carbon and volatile matter

Ask how each entry was established.

Check whether fixed carbon is calculated or measured, which method is used, and which reporting basis applies. Where it is calculated, request the calculation and the component results used. Do not combine percentages taken from separate sheets, different sample dates, or incompatible bases and treat the total as a validated analysis.

Read volatile matter alongside its method and sample information. Avoid treating a single composition figure as proof of odor, smoke, useful heat, or handling behavior. Those claims need evidence appropriate to the application and the property being asserted.

If moisture, ash, volatile matter, and fixed carbon appear inconsistent, ask the issuing party to explain the basis, rounding, calculation, and document scope. Do not silently correct the sheet or invent a missing result to make the numbers look complete. Record the question and the corrected version when issued.

05 · Calorific value

Keep gross, net, units and basis visible.

For a calorific-value entry, record the units, whether it is gross or net, the reporting basis, and the method. Unit conversion alone does not resolve a difference between gross and net values or between reporting bases. Ask for comparable results before declaring one offer stronger.

ISO’s public overview of ISO 18125 describes determination of gross calorific value using a bomb calorimeter and distinguishes it from net calorific value. That distinction is a reason to request the full reporting label. It is not evidence that a supplier used that method or that a particular Unimax lot was tested under it.

Do not translate a laboratory energy value into guaranteed session duration. Review burn-time claims separately with cube quantity, size, ignition method, airflow, appliance, and endpoint. A specification can support product comparison without predicting every customer’s operating result.

06 · Method and sample evidence

Follow the result back to the material tested.

For each reported result, identify the sample code, sampling or receipt date where available, test date, report reference, laboratory or responsible tester, and method. Ask which offered product or production lot the sample represents. A recent date is useful context but cannot establish representation by itself.

A method name must fit the material and property being evaluated. ASTM’s public scope for D1762 covers moisture, volatile matter, and ash in wood charcoal, including lumps and briquettes. If a supplier cites it for a coconut-shell product, ask the laboratory to confirm suitability and disclose any adaptation rather than assuming applicability from the name.

Request the relevant underlying report when a sheet summarises analytical results. Check whether it supports the quoted grade and values and whether the order needs fresh lot-linked evidence. Keep independent laboratory findings separate from in-house observations, while recording the scope and limitations of both.

07 · Purchasing decision

Close the evidence gaps before the commitment.

For each field, mark clear, needs clarification, or unsupported. Give unresolved items a named owner, requested evidence, and decision date. A missing method does not prove the product is bad; it means the figure cannot yet carry the weight your purchasing decision places on it.

Compare quotations only after the key requirements, units, methods, bases, and pack scope are aligned. Keep the accepted sample, specification version, and proposed production checks connected. Define how a failed result, source change, or specification change will be handled before shipment release.

Unimax’s shisha product page provides current grade information and directs buyers to request the relevant specification. Ask for the version and supporting evidence suited to your requirement. Commercial quantities, prices, and schedules remain subject to the current quotation, rather than being inferred from this guide.

Red-flag checklist

Clarify vague entries before relying on them.

A bare number

Ask whether it is a target, typical value, limit or test result.

Premium without a defined grade

Request the product identity and grade-specific sheet.

Percentages without a basis

Obtain the laboratory’s reporting basis and comparable results.

A method-free performance claim

Request the procedure, conditions, endpoint and evidence scope.

A report with no relevant sample link

Identify which offered grade or lot it represents.

A standard logo treated as certification

Request the actual claim and supporting record; a method citation is not product certification.

Method references and their limits

The public scope summaries below explain why method and reporting labels matter. They do not establish that Unimax uses these methods, that a specific lot conforms, or that one method applies automatically to every offered product. Confirm the relevant method with the responsible laboratory.

Before accepting the specification

Review COA identity, actual results and evidence scope alongside the agreed specification.

Keep ash color separate from the ash-content result when reviewing photographs and laboratory evidence.

Define visible damage and the receiving record before deciding acceptance or assigning a cause.

Set dimensional limits and the acceptance rule for the intended packaging and HMD setup.

Compare cube density with measured mass and dimensions and keep bulk packing density separate.

Compare calorific value by units, value type and basis before relating laboratory energy to useful session heat.

Read volatile matter by method and basis while keeping ignition and sensory observations separate.

Review fixed carbon alongside the complete proximate-analysis panel on a consistent reporting basis.

Check moisture results against sample handling and storage before comparing production and received data.

Review ash content by method and basis before relating the value to residue handling.

Include the specification in a complete price request when moving to a quotation.

Is a specification sheet the same as a COA?

A specification defines an offer or requirement; a certificate of analysis should identify the material and reported results. Check the document’s actual role and scope rather than relying on its title.

Can I compare two percentages directly?

First align the property, method, units, reporting basis, and sample scope. Request clarification where those conditions differ.

Does a method citation certify the product?

A cited analytical method is not, by itself, evidence of certification or lot conformity. Request the specific record supporting the claim.
